Always Our Inspiration

Matthew Irving Sims Sr., better known as Bear, was born on April 21, 1952 in Monroe, LA to the late Joseph Sr. and Helen Sims. Br. Matthew was a member of the Philadelphia Word Church. He served on the Board of Trustees and in the church cafeteria ministry. Matthew was married to Beverly for 46 years, and from this union he had three children - two daughters and one son, Rita, Chee-Chee, and Amie. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Sims Jr.

Matthew leaves to cherish his precious memories his loyal wife Beverly Jean Sims; three devoted children - Armenda R. Sims-Shaw, Matthew I. Sims Jr. (Jandrea), and Armetha R. Sims; three sisters - Helen Ruth Sims, Patricia Ann Sims, and Sharon Denise Lawson; three brothers - Bennie Sims (Nydia), George Sims (Jacqueline), and Michael Sims; four grandchildren - Matthew Isaac Sims, Harmony Ta'Shay Moffett, Winston Chase Sims-Virden, and Amira Jean Michelle Sims; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 211 Mt Zion Street, Monroe, LA 71202, Pastor Ike Byrd III leading. Pastor Alfred Mack of Philadelphia Word Church officiating. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic there will not be a visitation period or a repast. Friends and family will be able to sign the family book 9:30 AM - 12:00 NOON the day of the Memorial service.
