No Struggle, No Progress

Double Shootings Threaten Children

A drive-by shooting occurred at Kingsway Apartments in Monroe, LA on December 14, 2021 with kids witnessing over 100 shots that were allegedly fired. One person was hit by gunfire. It was a scary incident that happened out of the blue, scaring children and adults. Community residents are terrified and afraid of this unwarranted violence happening in their neighborhood. Witnesses on the scene recall many innocent people including kids running and ducking gunshots. Luckily no one was in the open field. The shots were fired continuously according to witnesses. Sources tell the Monroe Dispatch that a shooting happened at the Now-n-Save store on Jackson Ave. at Standifer St. on the same day and it also has many residents worried. The alleged incident left an employee's car marred with multiple gunshots. The location of the business is of concern because the E.P. Robinson Recreation Center is only steps away, where children and senior citizens congregate. Few allege that the current incidents are not isolated, as there have been numerous reports of other violent incidents occurring at the location, where a fatality occurred. As of press time, there has not been any information out from the Monroe Police Department, as anxious residents are hoping to hear from Police Chief Vic Zordan and Mayor Friday Ellis as to what their plans may be when it comes to police protection. Residents are worried and know that this may not be the last incident at the business establishment, but they, along with the public who frequent the Robinson Rec Center, are hoping that Tuesday's shooting will be the last.
