Shooting Terrifies Neighborhood

Some residents in a West Monroe neighborhood are terrified and afraid to come outside of their homes following a shooting during the early evening hours of Sunday, September 19, 2021. According to the West Monroe Police Department, an individual was in his vehicle when an alleged shooter, identified as Christopher Williams, shot an alleged victim. Police say Williams shot at the victim after he refused to give him any money. The victim was hit twice by the gunshots in the torso and the hip. The victim may need surgery, but the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Residents in the neighborhood talked about their fear of hearing of the shooting and how much that fear is felt on them, but also for the children in the community. One resident said that the shooting just scares people. A police officer said that Williams shot the victim in cold blood even though the victim didn't have any money to give. According to reports, by the time police officers arrived at the scene, Williams had been long gone. As of press time, police do not know of his whereabouts and are asking for the public's assistance in locating Williams. According to police reports, Williams has been involved in other criminal activity, as he was out on bond for attempted second-degree murder. That is a small consolation for residents in the neighborhood who are concerned for their safety and see someone shot, as it was alleged by police officers that Williams just walked out of his yard and started shooting. They all agreed with a West Monroe police officer who said that Williams must be taken off the streets and put behind bars. Sgt. CJ Beck also noted that there is a cash reward for anyone with information on the shooting.
