No Struggle, No Progress
A local child was severely injured when an automobile tore into his family's home in a situation that could have turned deadly. The unidentified 11-year-old who was reported as having "head injuries" was taken to Ochsner LSU Hospital in Shreveport. The extent of the damage to the house located on Parkview Drive showed that the impact from the automobile revealed just how serious the crash was. There was extensive damage to the front of the house, with debris strewn across the front lawn. In addition, there was an automobile in the driveway that was damaged from the impact of the vehicle as it veered toward the house. According to law enforcement, the vehicle allegedly driven by 46-year-old Charles Reed left the roadway striking two trees. The report states that the vehicle then hit a fence, then the automobile in the driveway, and finally the house, injuring the child in the house. By all accounts, just looking at the damage, the situation could have been much worse, and more injuries could have occurred. According to reports, Karn Jones, who lives in the house, said that the crash took out two bedrooms and her living room. She said that the sound of the crash frightened her, with bricks and dust around, as she called for her children. She said that the 11-year was in one of the bedrooms that was hit as she and others moved debris until they reached the child. Officers apprehended Reed, and according to reports, he appears to have slurred speech and potentially had trouble standing steady on his feet. Reed supposedly admitted to smoking PCP and taking Ecstasy pills. Law enforcement reported that Reed complained of injuries of his own, was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released. He was transported to Ouachita Correctional Center with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and 1 count vehicle negligence. There has been no information concerning the condition of the 11-year-old. Still, this incident shows what can and does happen when someone under the influence of alcohol/drugs loses control of a vehicle. A family is suffering from the alleged negligent act of someone who should not have been behind the steering wheel, and it is too late to take back the consequences of the actions caused by the alleged. Hopefully, this young child will be able to return home fully recovered and able to live a normal life as any other 11-year-old.
