Shootout Locks Shelling Elementary

Roy Neal Shelling Elementary School in Monroe LA was forced to lock down its campus in an attempt to protect students and staff Wednesday afternoon, April 28, 2021. Multiple sources share that a drive-by shooting took place in the Booker T. community. It is alleged that the drive-by shooting took place in the Kingsway Apartment complex directly across from the elementary school. Witnesses noticed a car in the complex had several bullet piercings. No other details have been revealed that report if anyone was hurt. Several attempts were made to confirm the incident with Monroe Police Department (MPD) officials, but calls for more information were left unanswered as of press time. Many questions linger, and concerned parents and community members are left to wait and see, fearing that it could happen again at any moment. We sure hope it does not, but instead, conflict is resolved and peace restored in a Monroe community that has already experienced so many other traumatic moments.
