No Struggle, No Progress
Although I do not always agree with all the laws and rules that the government imposes, I understand that in theory the rules are in place to keep us all safe. Difficulty ensues when rules change for individuals who get more lenient punishment when disobeying the rules. A few weeks ago, the governors of Texas and Mississippi made the shocking decision to lift restrictions recommended by the Center for Disease Control. The states’ top leadership announced masks are no longer required when out and about and that businesses can operate like in pre-Covid days and at 100% capacity.
As if anti-maskers needed a legitimate reason not to wear a mask; prior to this announcement, many have defied the rules and gone out in public without masks or face coverings.
Our society needs to be told what to do. We are all accustomed to our government setting structure that we can all follow. Imagine driving down a highway and not having a speed limit to control traffic. Many of us have experienced an erratic driver who recklessly zooms through traffic. It is bad enough there are a few drivers who are never caught for their reckless driving. Imagine if everyone on the road with you decided to drive however they felt and ignored certain rules established by the state office of motor vehicles. Instead, we have rules that help regulate traffic and protect all on roadways using general rules and some specific laws for certain areas. We are all used to our government setting structure that we can all follow. Our leaders should be wise and believe in putting people’s best interests above politics and financial gain.
Lifting restrictions is moving in a counterproductive direction for our country. Vaccinations are now becoming available to a broader subset of people, but there is still more distancing we need to maintain in order to get back to a more normal way of life. Rushing the process will only prolong true progression for Texas, Mississippi, and the rest of the country.
