No Struggle, No Progress
The University of Louisiana, Lafayette (ULL) Black Student Union (BSU) highlighted Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) member, Mr. Matthew Miles, from Monroe, LA. Mr. Miles serves as Area Coordinator for the Office of Residential Life and the faculty advisor for the Residence Hall Association at UL Lafayette. He holds a Master of Arts in Student Affairs and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Speech Communication. Mr. Miles is also pursuing his Doctorate of Education from UL Lafayette. Mr. Miles has received several awards and honors, including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Young Professional of the Year Award (2016-2017); and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Rising Professional of the Year Award (2019). He is involved in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., American Association of Blacks in Higher Education and Young University Professionals Association, and many other professional organizations.
“Student Affairs allows me the opportunity to educate students on the outside-of-the-classroom and provide intangible experiences that continue to create today's change agents through leadership, active citizenship, and engagement through the lens of advocacy, social justice, and inclusion.” Mr. Miles shared.
He is also a minister and life coach, the faculty advisor for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Natchitoches, LA. He is an avid viewer of anime, mystery, action, thriller, and comedy shows and movies. He is the son of Marvin and Savannah Miles of Monroe, LA.
