No Struggle, No Progress

Love is Never Easy

Love is bigger than a single person. One can invite love but cannot dictate how, when, and where love expresses itself. We often can choose to surrender to love or not, but in the end, love strikes like lightning: unpredictable and irrefutable. We can even find ourselves loving people we don't like at all. According to police reports on February 25, Suspect Octavia T. Howard and her boyfriend of four years were arguing until the victim picked up a board to defend himself, as Howard grabbed a knife and held it up, threatening him. Three of Howard's children were present and witnessed their mother go towards the victim with a knife. Upon being arrest, the suspect allegedly stated, "I should have fu-ed him up while I had the chance!"

In another unrelated domestic dispute that happened on the same day, police reports indicated another verbal argument escalated as a boyfriend asked his girlfriend of three years, suspect Detra M. Wright to leave. While leaving, Wright struck the victim's car with a scooter, causing damage to the car hood. When the victim stepped outside, she then hit him with the scooter. Both parties went back inside, where Wright picked up a skillet threatening to hit the victim if she didn't get her phone back. The suspect's children were present during their heated exchange. Both suspects were arrested and charged with domestic abuse battery, and child endangerment. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes the other or another side of this story.
