No Struggle, No Progress

Irma DeTiege Scholarship

Irma DeTiege was a monster for humanity. Coming from Riverton LA, she experienced many life hardships from her cotton field experiences, one room church schoolhouse to Monroe Colored High School. The hardships Mrs. DeTiege faced helped as she was an advocate for the voiceless and the invisible. Her vision through the News Leader, Monroe News Weekly and Monroe Dispatch gave Blacks and the poor a platform while viewing themselves in a different light. We carry on her legacy through scholarship to inspire our future generations. 2020 Irma DeTiege Scholarship Recipients were Randall Bishop, Amber Harris and Kamari Johnson. Thanks to all who donate to the Irma DeTiege Scholarship Fund Carla Mercy and Wyatt X and Louise Wilson. Your generous donations are always appreciated.
