No Struggle, No Progress

Tragic Death Dad Missed

Ted Moore liked being around people. According to his son Mario Smith, Moore was getting ready to enjoy his golden years, as his children had set him up to receive disability benefits and enjoy being around his grandchildren. But a domestic tragedy struck Moore Thursday January 28 when he was shot and killed by a woman that he had known. Now Smith and the rest of his sisters and brothers will lay Moore to rest, a sad task for them when it seemed that Moore's life was taking off. They were looking to Moore's final years as those of peace, but that Thursday took Moore away from them. Smith said that the family "didn't want to talk" about the alleged individual involved in the shooting, but are sadden that the situation turned out the way that it did. Smith said that Moore was a "people person", and it showed whenever he was playing the game of dominoes. His children watched and learned the game from Moore, and as with all dominoes players, Moore would brag that "he was the best" His children would take him up on that challenge and many good times were held at the domino table.

Smith said that times like those were more than just playing the game. Smith said that playing the game of dominoes is a way for strangers to get to know one another. "The game can help foster and build relationships that can last a lifetime", said Smith. Smith said that one of his fond memories of his dad was when he (Smith) was playing dominoes with one of his sisters and that Moore was watching them play. After the game was over, Smith said that his dad "finally admitted" that he (Mario) was "the best". You could hear the joy in Smith's voice as he recounted a happier time with his dad and siblings.

Smith said that Moore worked for a brief time for the city of Monroe, but he kept busy doing various other jobs. Moore was supposed to "take it easy" and enjoy being around his grandchildren, said Smith. Moore loved them all and was a proud grandpa seeing some of his grands receive various scholarships to attend universities. However now, it is time to say goodbye. A visitation will be held Friday, February 5 at McFarland Funeral Home from 5-8 PM. Graveside services will be held Saturday February 6 at Magnolia Cemetery at 2 PM. The family is asking that all attending to please wear a mask. Pastor Sam Moore will officiate the service. Smith says that the family "is thankful to God" for the years that their dad lived. They understand why people die and the family will move on. Smith said that when things are said and done for their dad, to not be surprised if the eight of them are around a table or two playing dominoes. Their dad would have enjoyed it. Please pray for Ted Moore's family.
