No Struggle, No Progress

Annie Davis Wisdom Knowledge & Guidance

Annie Horace Davis was born to the late John B. Horace and Rebecca Emerson Horace, November 25, 1912, in Monroe LA. Annie was the eldest of three children. One sister, Lovie Lee Kelly (Lil Sister) and one brother, John Brice Horace (Brother) both preceding her in death. Annie departed this life on January 12, 2021, after a brief illness. Annie attended early school at King Solomon Baptist Church. She continued her education at Monroe Colored High School until the 10th grade, when she left to stay home and tend to her ailing mother. Annie accepted Christ at a young age, while attending King Solomon Baptist Church and became a member of the choir. When she could no longer make the journey to King Solomon regularly, she affiliated with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Monroe LA. At the age of 23, Annie married Link Davis, who preceded her in death. She had one son, Jesse E. Ward, Jr. (Sonbaby) Though Son lived in Los Angeles, CA, he chose to spend the last 4 ½ years, living in Monroe, to insure the daily care of his mom. Annie worked in the food industry for over 17 years before retiring. She often told stories of her years of making mayonnaise. She would often travel to visit her son in California and Nevada or her granddaughter in Georgia. She enjoyed her travels, but would always say, "there's no place like home". If you ever visited her home, you would know of her passion for cooking and growing plants! She was blessed with a "green thumb" and a "golden spoon"! No one dared to compete with her recipe for a 7-up cake! Even when she could not stand to cook, she would request you bring her the ingredients, to the table and she would still prepare them from her wheelchair. Annie could remember dates and events, like they were yesterday! It was amazing to listen to her recall events in her life that happened over 75 years ago, all the while, you're thinking you can't remember what happened last week! Though we will miss her, we were truly blessed to have had her wisdom, knowledge and guidance for over 100 years. Thank you, Jesus! Annie leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Jesse E.
