No Struggle, No Progress
January 6, a day that will live in infamy in the history of the United States. It will be a day that many here and around the world thought would never happen. What’s the old saying about saying “never”? In the span of several hours, the world was witness to a nation that has often talked about turmoil in other nations due to civil unrest, while at the same time ignoring long simmering/smoldering fires of unrest in a divided nation that erupted as a volcano would on Jan. 6. It was not a race riot, but just as a volcano will give warning signs of an impending eruption, the warning signs in this nation have been evident for decades. A volcano can’t control itself; it will erupt or not. It just has to do it under the “right” circumstances. Humans are different in that they can take control of themselves when it comes to violence. The violence that we witnessed at the Capitol was done by those who claimed that they “needed to take back” the nation because their freedom to choose their president “had been stolen” from them. There was not a single state that reported votes being improperly handled nor widespread irregularities. Not one. The riot started because the now gone(almost)president, Donald Trump, had said before the campaigning started, that if he lost, it would be from an “rigged” election. That’s when the seed of doubt was planted in the minds of millions from all walks of life to not trust the results of the election. History will show that President Trump talked more about that(rigging) than his accomplishments as president. He had to. He didn’t want his supporters to think otherwise.
In the aftermath of the assault on the Capitol, the term “domestic terrorism” has been mentioned by those angry at the president who say he incited those who are supportive of him to march to the Capitol and take over Congress. You won’t hear that from Hannity, Carlson, Ingraham and others, but instead they will all try to make it sound as if those rioters were somehow “misguided” by Democrats who “hated” the president from day one of his presidency. They are now saying that those rioters were not Trump supporters, but “elements” of BLM and other far left groups. How many Black rioters did you see waving Trump and Confederate flags? Ok. They won’t mention that Trump had a disdain for President Obama so bad, that he questioned the man’s birthright as a citizen of the U.S. Nor will they mention how Republicans literally vowed to make Mr. Obama a “one term” president. Throughout the four years of his presidency, Trump made everything about him if things went well, but was quickly to blame Democrats for his failures. Remember the money Mexico was going to pay for the wall? He had complete control of Congress for the first two years of his presidency. He has Republicans all over this nation, except for a few, who blindly followed and believed every word he said without seeking, just ignoring the truth. They believed that the election was rigged and even after November 3 and even after Republican/conservative judges ruled against the dozens of lawsuits on the president’s behalf, they were unwilling to accept the truth. As a result, all of that was lost on his supporters at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
The world was witness to how two different sets of people are treated at the hands of the police in this nation, that left no doubt that some seem to have “privileged” status, while others do not. The attempt(?) to quell the rioters is deemed a failure by the Capitol Police. Videos show that the rioters did as they pleased, as the police did not take them seriously until it was too late. If there was a “no pass” perimeter set up, the police allowed access to the Capitol, some allowing selfies to be taken. When they realized that the rioters’ goal was to disrupt Congress, it was too late. According to media reports, only one of two shots were fired by police officers. Why? What was so different about this “protest”, even as it turned violent? Many believe that they know the answer, but we will have to wait for the “official” report from Congress and see if any Republicans will agree that the racial makeup of the protesters/rioters had anything to do with the Capitol Police’s response. Five people (as of press time) are dead and a nation is further divided. Is this the real United States? There will have to be a lot of soul searching over the coming months to see if this nation will ever want to be truly united. We should also not be naïve to not think that there are those waiting for the next opportunity to tear this nation apart. Remember, the world is watching. So is God.
