No Struggle, No Progress

THE LONG REACH OF RACISM

Anyone with a television, cell phone or printed media has to be aware of the unrest in Washington D. C. at the Capitol.

There were reportedly 6 deaths and numerous injured during this riot which has been described as an “Insurrection”, which may be defined as a violent uprising against an authority or government. Noticeably, there were very few Blacks involved as participants with the riotous acts. Also, even more noticeably were the few law enforcement officers at any level which was such a difference from the overflowing numbers of officers on all levels during the “Black Lives Matter” protests.

Not until after the fact or the incident actually occurred, was there vigilance to make arrests of Trump Supporters made up of primarily white demonstrators who literally disrupted the Capitol, tearing down statutes, offices and brutally beating and injuring police officers to the degree that one of them died.

One of the many ways, good and bad, in which America is truly exceptional in its experience of race, is how race is actually treated in the same or similar circumstances.

Under no other circumstances would Blacks have been allowed to get nearly as far as that group of mostly whites got without being beaten, arrested or even having a knee on the neck to the point of a loss of breath and then death.

Some media is saying that there was no signal that the crowd was going to be so large or unruly. However, other media sources are pointing out instances and proof of printed warnings announcing the visit with plans to be destructive and to commit harm. Somebody turned their head when the group was described as “Trump Supporters” because they were envisioned to be White not Black.

We do not need to travel to Washington D. C. to see the reach of the arm of racism. Go to a store and see how the clerk will reach around a Black to assist a White. Go to a doctor’s office or anywhere, a restaurant or a convenient store, or anywhere. It does not matter how poor the white clerk or attendant may be, he/she will go a distance to stretch that arm of racism.

Be aware that Racism is far from being dead. It is very much alive, right here in our front yard.
