Blanche Rodgers' Treasured Farewell

Blanche Luretta Goston Rodgers was born April 4, 1935 to the late Johnny and Lillian Goston in Monroe, LA. Blanche accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Gaines Chapel Baptist Church, Rev H.S. Staten, pastor. She was converted to Catholicism at Little Flower Church in Monroe. She attended Bryant Addition School, Monroe Colored High, and graduated from Carroll High School. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Grambling State University. She moved to Anderson, Indiana after graduating where she taught for 10 years. She received her master's degree in Education from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana in 1974. She returned to Monroe and received her plus 45 in Administration from Grambling State University. Her educational career was to teach grades 5 to 8 at Logtown, Pinecrest, and Linwood Schools in Ouachita Parish School System; she taught grades 5th to 6th at Shadeland and North Anderson Elementary in Anderson, Indiana. In addition, she was Board Representative for Anderson Federation of Teachers, as well as Secretary for Anderson Reading Association. Blanche's interest varied from North Louisiana Interfaith, Sorelles Social Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and The Mayor's Commission in Needs of Women, where she served as an officer in each. Her favorite interest was traveling. She enjoyed 4 cruises to different islands, visited Canada, Germany, France, and other places in Europe. Blanche's first love was her family and her church. She was a loyal, faithful, and dedicated member of Little Flower where she was a greeter, lecturer, served on the Evangelation, Pastoral Council, Interfaith, and Bereavement Committees. She served as Vice Grand lady, Hospitality Chairperson, and supporting member of KPC Ladies Auxiliary Court, 160. She was a member of KPC Court 35 4th Decree Program. She united in matrimony to Goldie J. Rodgers Sr. To this union came seven children. Tonia Rodgers, Gwenevere Chukurah in Monroe, LA; Naomi Lawler (Michael) in Shreveport, LA; Goldie Jr in Anderson, IN; Vernon Rodgers in Monroe, LA; Deirdre Brown (Keith) in Houston, TX; and Susan Ann (deceased). She is survived by siblings John Henry Goston (Addie Bea), Moses Goston, and Dora Stamper. Preceding her in death: her parents Johnny and Lillian Goston; brothers Johnny Jr., Edgar, Frank, and Cleophus; sisters Naomi Harris and Alberta Hester. She was cherished by Goddaughters Carrie Ross (niece), Carla Mercy, Gaynell Perry and Jackie Perry (deceased); Grandchildren Douglas Simond, Emma Rodgers, Julius Jones, Anthony Rodgers Sr., TeAra Jerrell, Michael Lawler, Jr., Jordon Brown, Mishun Kage, and Kyle Rodgers; 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; friends Corine Adams, Bernice Allen, and Claudia Alexander; her sisters and brothers of KPC and many others that enriched her life (i.e. former students and church family). Blanche went home to be with the Lord on Thursday December 31, 2020. Funeral services are Friday January 8, 2021, at 11am at Little Flower Catholic Church in Monroe LA.
