No Struggle, No Progress
Coalition of Love Members held a book signing for city legend Arthur "Silver Fox" Edwards on Friday, December 4, 2020. Hosted by President/Coordinator Earline Knox, calls were made to members encouraging purchase of Edward's compelling book, "From Sword to Pen." To members who dropped by to pick up their book were vice president/treasurer Attorney George Britton and singer/songwriter Shereka Shabang who had just returned from Atlanta, Georgia recording a video shoot of her new song, "Runit". On the phone were Hollywood Stage, TV and screen actor Bill Cobbs, Grambling State University Professor Dr. Herbert Simmons, Jr., Jonesboro LA Mayor Leslie Thompson, former Grambling State University band director Rev. Dr. Curtis Willis, retired master data specialist Bonnie J. Swafford of Houston, TX, living legend & last original founding member of Deacons for Defense, Charlie White of Jonesboro LA, Minister Lawrence Spikes of Winnfield LA, and Wendy Callahan, Jackson Parish President of the NAACP & district chief vice president. This soon to be coveted book addresses the issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in military veterans. Cleverly executed in a poetic style, "From Sword to Pen" offers insight into the challenges and coping mechanisms that can provide a better understanding of their plight. This book also stands as a metaphor that addresses the ills of this society. While I would not dare compare any maladies to that of PTSD, mutations of PTSD and its challenges are present in all aspect of the human experience that foster dis-enfranchisement, racism, intolerance, injustice. Examples gleaned from this book can help anyone facing personal challenges. Whether the problems are attempted suicide, drug and alcoholism, infidelity, anger, hatred, bullying or whatever. You will recognize that you are not the only one and you are not alone. Moreover, "Sword to Pen" can be a powerful self-help tool towards healing since we all have trials and tribulations. And sometimes in our journey of life, we all experience pain, disappoint and emotional meltdown. I honestly believe that God has ordained this work to help with the suffering of his people and has chosen the undaunted voice of Art Edwards to assist. Hence, this book should be found in every household. The pandemic has seriously affected Edward's sales and appearances, but we have the power to show our thanks for his and all veterans service by purchasing one or more books. So, get on the phone, readers, and launch your own book parties. The author states in his foreword that this book is pain medicine to everyone who has suffered a loss through combat. I submit that it is pain medicine for anyone suffering. Help empower someone to have guidance and stronger hope for the new year, 2021.
