No Struggle, No Progress
As a lifelong resident of Bryant’s Addition except for 8 years in Louisville, KY, in my conversation with those in the South Monroe community there are concerns about the lack of Economic Development and attracting businesses to the South Second Street and Winnsboro Rd corridors in Monroe LA. However, after speaking to several residents with special needs Winnsboro Rd. is in dire need of a sidewalk and lighting project, ASAP. So many of South Monroe residents are traveling whether it’s to the Dollar General, Mac’s Fresh Market or any of the convenience stores in motorized wheelchairs. They are literally in the flow of traffic. Our elected officials must fight for our fair share of the budgets before rubber stamping and giving blank checks to other parts of the parish and city to develop. We must improve the infrastructure of South Monroe immediately. Finally, statistics show that proper lighting reduces crime. Yes, we need lights on 165 South to Richwood High School, but we also need better lighting on Winnsboro Rd, South Second Street and throughout South Monroe. We are expecting our elected officials to fight for the poor, suffering and disenfranchised in our community. One Black Man’s Opinion! By: Bro. Verbon Muhammad, a Nation of Islam Minister
