No Struggle, No Progress
Mrs. Herberdenia "Algie" (White) Kindle was born November 15, 1928 in Monroe, Louisiana. She was the eldest of 6 girls born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Nathaniel & Katie White. Herberdenia's early education was in Quachita Parish, Louisiana. She attended The Monroe Colored High School, in Monroe, Louisiana and later attended Grambling State University pursuing a degree in education. While at Grambling State University she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Herberdenia met Nathe Kindle while they were both students at The Monroe Colored High School. After graduation Herberdenia went on to Grambling State University and Nathe went to work. She would leave Grambling to marry the love of her life. On Saturday, December 20, 1947 she married Nathe. This was the start of a union to last 73 years. To this union seven children were born. Curtis, Rita, Evelyn, Michael, Herberdenia "Dean", Adolphus "Al" and Tyrone. Two sons, Curtis and Tyrone preceded her in death. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, big sister and friend. Herberdenia moved from Monroe, Louisiana to Chicago, Illinois in September 1950. Herberdenia was an awesome stay at home wife and mom to six children. But this did not dampen her desire to achieve more for her family. An entrepreneur was born there in their two-room apartment. Herberdenia found enterprises to get involved with. She sold Tubber Ware, Tiara Crystal, Celebrity Jewelry and World Book Encyclopedia. Each she continued to sell for many years. Herberdenia also found time to go back to school at this time. When everyone had eaten, homework and dishes done, clothes set up for the next day and everyone in bed, she studied. Herberdenia had enrolled in Madam C. J. Walker Beauty Academy and graduated in 1966 She passed the state test and became a licensed beautician. She also soon started working at Oak Forest Hospital. Herberdenia encouraged all of her children to go to school and graduate. At a time when discrimination in school was rampant against our black children especially against our black boys it was not acceptable to her. On many occasions she would be the lone black mother in the school principal's office speaking up for her sons and daughters and she would win. She departed this earth on Thursday, October 22, 2020. The significance of this day is that she wanted to be here for the eldest daughter's birthday. She fought to make it to be here for her daughters' birthday. Remembering her with love are her loving husband: Nathe; five children: Rita McCune, Evelyn Pharms, Michael Kindle, Herberdenia Phillips & Adolphus (Harriet) Kindle; four beautiful sisters: Bettye (Robert) Carter, Earlene Bryant, Bonnie Wade all of Monroe, LA, Patricia Guilbeaux of Atlanta, GA; fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren family and friends. Her funeral services were held Friday November 6, 2020 in Country Club Hills IL.
