COVID-19 Worse

A Black pastor eulogized his 30-year old son who died after testing positive for coronavirus. The virus is real, my son had no preexisting conditions prior to the illness. It's not a hoax, or joke, its real. His dad thought he'd be fine, he was young while thinking his son could fight it off, while that was not the case. The son had no health insurance, had gone to the hospital twice, only to be sent home from the hospital emergency room. It's a bad time for Black people to become sick. Black folks are dying at a much higher COVID-19 rate than other races. Black Americans are becoming infected with the coronavirus at a rate three times that of whites and they are twice as likely to die from COVID-19, according to a new report from the National Urban League, based partly on data from Johns Hopkins University. African Americans are dying at rates higher than their proportion of the population. In 21 states, it's substantially higher, more than 50% above what would be expected. For example, in Wisconsin, at least 141 African Americans have died, representing 27% of all deaths in a state where just 6% of the state's population is black. Racial ethnic disparities in COVID-19 are the result of pre-pandemic realities. It's a legacy of structural discrimination that has limited access to health and wealth for people of color. African-Americans have higher rates of underlying conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and lung disease, that are linked to more severe cases of COVID-19. Blacks are still enslaved, yet on a different plantation. Don't get sick! Continue to wear masks, practice social distancing, staying away from large crowds!
