Witness Project 1st Candlelight Vigil

The Witness Project of Northeast Louisiana hosted its' 1st Annual Candlelight Vigil on October 1, 2020 at the Monroe Civic Center. Hope was displayed throughout the Civic Center with pink lighting. The Witness Project of NELA encourages women to do your self breast exam, get a mammogram, see your health care provider for a clinical breast exam and share with them if you have a family history of breast cancer. This event was a kick-off to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to honor our past members and value our present members. The candlelight vigil began with a welcome from co-director Dr. Florencetta Gibson, prayer, Rev. Stonewall Hunter, Jr., proclamation from Mayor Friday Ellis read by Ms. Zabrina Gaines, reading the names of our honored past members were Ms. Jolanda Handy, Mrs. Ira Brown, Mrs. Carolyn Harris and Mrs. Gloria Clark. A candle was lite as each name was read. Thanks, to Mrs. Sheila Cyrus for the singing of the Witness Project Song. The event organizers were Sheila Cyrus and Jacqueline Johnson. Every participant wore a facemask while practicing social distance. The Witness Motto: "In Church people witness to save Souls, at The Witness Project, they witness to save LIVES."
