No Struggle, No Progress

Shooting... Life's Worst Moment

Being Black has many unique challenges. The odds have always been stacked against Blacks since the beginning with slavery. Fast forward to 2020, and some Blacks are still in bondage mentally, physically, and emotionally. While the majority of Blacks are just one disaster away from ruins, when factoring a major fatality in the equation, the plight of some is often worse. One area man will now have to face a justice system with his family left to face the consequences as another family is forced to say farewell to their loved one. According to police reports, on Sunday, September 27, a shooting occurred on South 29th St. in Monroe, LA following an argument allegedly about shoes. Suspect Dexstavious James, 38, fought with victim Marshall Carter when James produced a pistol that jammed. He apparently cleared the pistol and allegedly proceeded to shoot the victim in the head, witnessed by a neighbor, the suspect's mother, and a cousin. The suspect is originally from Monroe but lives in Shreveport, LA was arrested, and charged with second-degree murder and a child support obligation, held with a million-dollar bond. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes another or the other side of this story.
