No Struggle, No Progress

South Monroe Farmer's Market

Follow me to the Oasis: I was a Police juror for over ten years and one of the prevailing complaints I would always hear was: "There is nothing good happening on the Southside of town". People would speak so disparagingly about Southeast Ouachita always referring to the high crime rate, the poverty, the penal systems located there, the trash...on and on and on. As if there was nothing of any value located below Winnsboro Road. Contrary to popular opinion, I found a wealth of goodness right in South Monroe. For one thing that's where I was raised right on Burg Jones Lane in a very good neighborhood with awesome neighbors. In the early 80's I became a member of Liberty Christian Center and I watched as the young Drumgoles (now Apostle Johnny and Dr. Pamela) forged ahead and became innovators creating spiritual and educational wealth through the founding of the first private school named Southside Christian Academy located on acres of beautiful land right down on Hwy 165 South Monroe.

The school earned Cinderella status and was later changed to Excelsior. We were well known throughout the entire state for our quality in education and sports. Liberty saw needs and provided solutions. That is why it is so appropriate that Liberty under the direction of the Drumgoles launched the Southside Monroe Farmer's Market initiative. Well aware that South Monroe is over populated with Fast Food Mega Stars serving highly seasoned, fried and nutritionally depleted foods...Liberty is undertaking the colossal task of providing a haven where local Farmers and Suppliers of wholesome foods can begin to heal the area by supplying the highly sought-after fresh foods to a public well in need of quality service. The adventure will kick off in Mid-October. For more information contact me, Dr. Ollibeth Reddix at 318-267-8274, Patrick Baker at 770-670-9399 or Dorothy Sutton 318-614-2611. The best is yet to come!
