No Struggle, No Progress

Always in Our Hearts

Joseph Bernard Smith was born to the late Freeman Smith, Sr. and Cleo Jackson Smith on December 16, 1952 in Monroe, Louisiana. On August 31, 2020, Joseph "Joe" Smith Sr. peacefully went home to be with the Lord. Joseph was preceded in death by seven siblings: Curtis, Billy Ray, Alpha Jane, Aubrey, Sr., Freeman, Jr., Dana and Carrie. Joseph gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. B. Brown. He later united with Kino Chapel in Sierra Vista, Arizona where he was a faithful member. Joseph was a graduate of Neville High School Class of 1971. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He did extensive traveling around the world (which he really enjoyed). After serving his country faithfully for at least twenty years, Joseph retired as a Staff Sergeant. Joseph later enrolled in and graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Joseph enjoyed officiating high school and college basketball games. He was also a boxing coach. His memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of his two children: Joseph Smith, Jr. and Corey McAllister; three grandchildren: Mason, Jaylxon and Jayden; his oldest sister, Bessie Bowers; Aunts: Eva Jackson and Marie Jackson; his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, September 11, 2020, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Miller's Funeral Home (2932 Renwick Street, Monroe, LA). The "Celebration of Life" service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, 1:00 p.m. in the Alice Mae Chapel of Miller's Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Richwood Memorial Gardens. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11
