No Struggle, No Progress

Heinous Murder

A local Ouachita Parish man can be grateful that he will not spend a long time in prison for a crime that he didn't commit. Cameron Powe was allegedly involved in the murder of Michael Robinson, a Richwood resident, who was the alleged victim of a robbery committed by him and Michael Mitchell Jr. on July 29. According to law enforcement, Powe was in a vehicle being driven by Michael Mitchell Jr. when they were pulled over by a Louisiana State Trooper (LSP) in Franklin Parish for speeding. During the stop, the officer said that he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from Mitchell, as Mitchell allegedly said that he had smoked marijuana. A perimeter look at the vehicle revealed bullet holes on the driver's side. Powe at the time said nothing according to the officer's report as reported in the media, as a search consent was given by Mitchell where Robinson's body was found in the trunk of the vehicle. When both men were taken in for questioning in Winnsboro, Mitchell allegedly confessed that he had a part in Robinson's death, but that he didn't act alone. Mitchell said that he and Powe had planned to rob Robinson and that Powe shot Robinson multiple times. Police said that the pair loaded the body in the victim's vehicle and drove to Franklin Parish to dump Robinson's body in a secluded area allegedly provided by Powe. Both men were charged with Second Degree Murder and their bonds were set at $500,000 each. Mitchell and Powe were incarcerated at the Ouachita Correctional Center until trial or unless they were able to make bail. But according to police reports, the murder charge against Powe was dropped soon after his arrest. Charges were dropped against Powe by LSP after it was determined that upon further admission by Mitchell, officers said that Powe "had nothing" to do with the crime. It is not often that an individual gets a second chance for a "do over". Powe has his.
