No Struggle, No Progress

Do The Right Thing

Do The Right Thing

I want to think that very few people wake up feeling their day’s work should include hating or harming another person. The reality, however, is that crimes based on hate are committed every day. Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, is one of many movies that tell the story of racial tensions between different people of varying nationalities. The film especially exposed police brutality issues that often go unnoticed, like the death of Radio Raheem. Even then, a movie depicted the disheartening image of a Black man’s body being carried off by police with no remorse, let alone accountability. Although Do The Right Thing was released in 1989, the theme of racial conflict is still a major issue in our world now 31 years later. The only proof one needs to confirm this statement is to look up the number of Blacks that have been killed at the hands of police only in the past year.

I hate when bad history repeats itself. The issues of police brutality, racism, and unjust treatment of those who deserve more continue to happen throughout our country. It leads me to believe that those few who’s intention is to inflict harm are literally getting away with murder.

Since the beginning of this year, the message I have been seeing is that we need to act more in the Spirit of God than of the spirit of our pride, ego, and self-righteousness.

We still have time to right our wrongs before it is too late.
