No Struggle, No Progress
One of the questions that is being asked in the community following the tragic ending to Errol Johnson's life is, why couldn't police officers wait him out. People are saying that Johnson, being in a motel room with only one way out, may be alive if police officers were a little more patient. Johnson had nowhere to go. He may have surrendered if given more time as there is no "set time". We won't know. According to law enforcement, Johnson was shot after he opened fire on officers. Multiple shots were fired in a span of 10-15 seconds before the scene came to its' tragic end. Prior to the shooting, officers were attempting to talk Johnson into surrendering. After viewing the incident on social media, some have asked if additional information will be released because of conflicting theories of how Johnson died. Police say that Johnson fired first prompting officers to return fire. Unconfirmed witnesses on the video say that Johnson shot himself. But until the investigation is completed and the official version is made public, The Dispatch will not say, nor can it confirm if the first shot heard on the videos is that of Johnson or of an unconfirmed alleged sniper who may have had a strategic position looking at the door of Johnson's room.
There is also the question of if there were two bodies recovered from Johnson's room. In videos of the incident, voices can be heard wondering if the "first" alleged body recovered by officers was that of someone else other than Johnson. Minutes later, voices can be heard saying that a "second" body was brought down, that of Johnson. There were talk of a body bag being brought on the scene while attempts to revive Johnson took place. There has been no confirmation from law enforcement if that is true or not. The public can only rely on what it has seen on social media, but clearly more transparency should be made. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Dispatch welcomes another side or the other side of this story. It's in the best interest of the public.
