No Struggle, No Progress
On Friday June 5, 2020, Sam Long Jr. was called home to be with the Lord. A native of Monroe LA, Sam Long Jr. was born on December 16, 1933. He was the son of the late Sam Long Sr. and Lila Turner Long . Sam was a graduate of Southern University Baton Rouge LA. He lived most of his adult life in New Orleans LA until 2005. He also lived in the Peachtree City and Senola GA. Sam was a loving and devoted husband and father and a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, as well as a former member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in New Orleans for over 40 years. While being an officer in the U.S. Army, Sam married Camille East in Columbia SC, where they started their lifetime journey together. He retired from Dillard University in New Orleans as controller with a gift for numbers, where he dedicated his talent to the sustaining health of fiscal affairs and operations for a host of Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), Tulane University Archives, faith based organization including the Institute of Church Administration and Management, Conference of National Black Churches and the Boy Scouts of America. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, in laws James and Elmira East, four sisters Judith Long Joseph, Cora Long DeBose, Sallie Long Welch, Irma Long, two brothers Arthur Long and Ira Long. He is survived by his devoted wife Camile E. Long, two children Diedra Long St.Julien (James), Cedrick Elliott Long (Vanessa), three grandchildren Jessica E. St.Julien, James A. St.Julien lll, Alex M. Long, one sister Ethel Long Belt, one brother John Long (Judith), sisters in laws Beatrice E. Edinburgh, Bobbie E. Seawright, Mildred Long, Silvia Long, brother in laws Alvin Edinburgh, James Joseph Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were Saturday June 13, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City GA.
