No Struggle, No Progress
The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) hosted a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Forum, Tuesday, June 9, 2020. The forum was sparked by protests around the world responding to the death of George Floyd, who was murdered under the knee of a Minnesota police officer. Floyd's death has uncovered racial inequities across the US, sparking similar conversations across varying industries. ULM Interim President Dr. Edwin Litolff, SGA President Olivia Bailey, ULM Professor Dr. Pamela Saulsberry, Wossman High School Principal Dr. Harrington Watson, United Way of Northeast President Janet Durden, Monroe Chapter NAACP President Rev. Ambrose Douzart, and Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo all gave remarks. A Q&A session was held, allowing students and concerned community members to voice their opinions and pose questions to the university's administration. "When I first got here, I walked around ULM and realized that we've got some work to do." said interim President, Dr. Edwin Litolff. Dr. Litolff shared that he knows other institutions have their problems too, but he's committed to making sure the university is inclusive for all.
