Community Vigil

Residents of the Monroe gathered for an emergency vigil to uplift the community after a murder-suicide disrupted the city, at 7:45PM on Thursday, June 11, 2020. The vigil was held the next day on Friday, June 12, at 7:45PM, the exact same time as the slaying occurred. Community leader Rev. Vance Price organized the vigil, proclaiming a cleansing over the city, with other religious leaders gathering to pray and offer words of encouragement to all those in mourning. Mayor Mayo and interim police chief Reggie Brown offered words about what happened and religious leaders, Minister Pamela Byrd, Rev. James Boatner, Rev. ______________ all offered special prayers for healing. Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (HSA), a regional social services organization, was also on-site, providing resources to those who mourned.
