No Struggle, No Progress

Irma DeTiege Scholarship

The Legendary Irma DeTiege was a special person to many. She was ordinary person yet could do spectacular things for anyone who needed help. One exceptional quality possessed by Irma DeTiege was she had been where many were and knew while understanding hardships. Her willingness to assist despite others social status made her unique. Her heart was enormous, but her tolerance for imprudence was zero. She was an extremely poor girl from nowhere who went through so many trails as ordinary until she became somebody without the flash or fane fare. Irma DeTiege graduated from Monroe Colored High, attended Southern University Baton Rouge LA, later graduating from Grambling College later in life as a teacher. Upon beginning her teaching career, she taught all of the busters. The busters at school had a respect for Mrs. DeTiege for showing them real love, while making sure they receive the very best education and discipline. Coming from where the busters were from, they know her heart was genuine, while she will be remembered by them forever. Thanks for all who have donated to the Irma DeTiege Scholarship Fund especially Dr. Glenda Starr. Dr. Starr and Irma DeTiege were Deltas and close. Dr. Starr understood the wisdom and guidance which was imparted to her by the late Irma DeTiege. A Scholarship was formed in her honor to keep her legacy alive and to help and encourage students to reach their full potential through our only trail, education.
