No Struggle, No Progress

Bastrop Drive In Commencement

Bastrop High School held its graduation ceremony for the senior class of 2020 on Friday, May 15. Due to social distancing, the high school was unable to hold a traditional graduation ceremony, so administration, faculty and staff reimagined the tradition and offered their graduates a commencement ceremony they could truly be proud. In the well planned and thought out activity the students along with certain family members gathered in their cars at the high school. Then the automobile caravan traveled in a parade of graduates through town to the old Walmart parking lot. There drivers parked to listen to and watch the graduation ceremony while sitting in their cars, adhering to social distancing guidelines. The virtual ceremony was complete with the traditional speeches including one from Valedictorian, Jordan Rabun, which was not only timely but very inspiring. Each senior saw their name and picture flash across the screen as their name was called. The parade ended with the distribution of diplomas by the principal, Mr. Christopher Broussard. The drive-in ceremony was a hit for the graduates and community who came out to support.
