No Struggle, No Progress

LA Braces for Hurricane

Storm evacuees start to arrive in northeast Louisiana ahead of Hurricane Laura. Officials in Monroe and West Monroe announced that they will not open any local shelters due to COVID-19 concerns, and do not expect local residents to require any disaster needs. On Wednesday morning, August 26, Governor John Bel Edwards held a press conference outlining the severity of the preeminent storm. The Governor's Wednesday press conference was a follow up of several other press conferences specifically held to address the danger looming as the state prepares for the worst during this year's hurricane season. Edwards advised that all residents in the southernmost part of the state evacuate immediately if they have not yet, as Hurricane Laura is already approaching the state's coastline and is expected to make landfall in the middle of the night. Storm surge could reach as far as 30-50 miles inland from the immediate coastline, and experts studying the storm have called it "unrevivable".
