No Struggle, No Progress
In the Washington, DC region, the late honorable, Marion Barry - the second mayor of Washington, DC, 1979-1991, and again 1995-1999 - stood the test of time. He was best known for coming to the aid of his people in DC despite his imperfections. For the loyalty and allegiance, he rendered to his constituents, he, today, is known as the city's Mayor for Life. When I think of a leader that serves in such a capacity, I think of the mayor of my hometown, Monroe, LA, the honorable James "Jamie" Mayo. He has served in the position for quite some time and currently sits at the helm. There must be good in what he is doing; he's still there.
He, like any leader, regularly faces challenges and confronts them head-on in hopes of a comfortable resolve, as harmony for all is the ultimate desire. I have known him for many years and found him to be just as sincere and helpful as he was in years past. A product of Monroe, I found myself calling on him to represent here in the nation's capital. As ironic as it was, he did not disappoint as I wanted all to know that Monroe, LA has a most competent, caring, supportive, religious, and intellectual leader. I have supported and believed in him throughout the years, and though I am miles away, he yet again has my support. He is my Mayor for Life.
