No Struggle, No Progress
Problematic Concerns About Location of Martin Luther King, Jr. School Cannot Be Buried In Attractive Construction Layout-Community concerns were utterly ignored in 2018 as the location for the school would be a problem. There are already traffic problems with the school being located between Wossman High School and Minnie Ruffin Elementary School. Residents from West Parkview Homeowners Association explained that there was simply not enough room and it would add to traffic problems, which already existed. With ongoing movement among three schools in such close proximity, there is always a possibility for accidents as well as the fact that this particular land is a constant area for flooding during heavy rains. Drainage problems should have been and still need to be addressed. A beautiful structure promised by the contractor is a given, and so are the inherited problems. The school is a replacement school to relocate students from a current school to a new site. The location is intended for students to share amenities among the three schools. This concept sounds ideal, but troubleshooting should have been considered and certainly, concerned tax paying community persons should have been included in the determining of a location and not ignored. Residents are more doubtful than ever on the memory of the recent thunderstorms and tornadoes that ushered in lots of rain. This location is known to suffer very severe flooding during heavy rains. The history reveals that an adult drowned in the area some years ago during a bad flooding period. Consequently, extremely close supervision of students moving on campus should be monitored. Perish the thought of losing anyone to drowning, but especially a student. Again, residents really approved the appearance planned for the school, but hold sincere reservations and caution about the actual new location of Marin Luther King, Jr. Middle School Monroe LA with an enrollment of less than two hundred fifty students. How much again, is being spent of taxpayer dollars to build this school?
