No Struggle, No Progress
According to Weather Services Reports, three tornadoes hit Ouachita Parish on Easter Sunday. The National Weather service informed us that these tornadoes hit just before noon. Thank goodness no fatalities were reported as a result of this horrendous weather. Officials estimate a total of 458 homes across the parish were impacted by the tornadoes; 23 homes were destroyed; 108 had major damages; 243 with minor damage, and another 84 homes were affected across the parish. As one tornado crossed South Grand Street, it ripped the roof off a two- story home and damaged several additional roofs on homes. The worst damage from the tornado then occurred along Orchid Drive and damages were along a corridor of a subdivision leaving intense damage before it destroyed a metal hanger at the Monroe Regional Airport. And according to citizens and residents in the city of Monroe, Mayor Mayo was among the very first responders to jump in and doing everything possible to assist families. He personally went to each affected area. Some residents proudly shared that the Mayor gave them a personal visit and offered encouragement as he worked to arrange for places for them have an immediate roof over their heads. Senior citizens who were without power also were grateful to the Mayor for personally checking on them. All entities of the city were on their marks; the police department provided around-theclock security; the fire department offered paramount assistance, including joining in with Entergy and all other agencies. One local school administrator said that he went to see the damages, but when he saw the vigor and sincerity in which Mayor Mayo was engaged, he, immediately, joined in to become a volunteer. Hats off and superlative gratitude to Mayor Jamie Mayo for take an initial lead during a major crisis in the city of Monroe!
