No Struggle, No Progress

Louisiana Schools Closed Distance Learning Continues

On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, Governor John Bel Edwards announced that Louisiana schools will remain closed through the remainder of the academic year, but distance education will continue. Students will not have to make up missed time, and educators and administrators are now working to assess students’ academic standing. More information will be shared as it is developed. Louisiana Association of School Superintendents, Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA), Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), and many other state and professional organizations are putting together plans and policies for students statewide, offering guidance to local districts. 39 of the state’s 69 school districts are implementing distance learning tools like videoconferencing, emails, and assigned work. There is a growing concern for how students who are not receiving support will be impacted. This concern has sparked a conversation for what the future of education in our state will look like, including a plan for continued education and resources during a crisis. The state’s education system will continue to offer free lunches as scheduled.
