Mrs. Christena Johnson Huff Passes

Mrs. Christena Johnson Huff, the ninth of nine children born to the late Eugene Robert Johnson and Arabella Nicholas Barrington on July 26, 1927, transitioned on Monday, March 30, 2020. Mrs. Huff received her education at Monroe Colored High School and Grambling State University where she received her degree in Education. She was employed in the Monroe City School System as a second and third grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary and Minnie Ruffin Elementary. Her soft-spoken demeanor displayed through her students who also spoke softly. She retired from her profession after 25 years to care for her ailing husband of 42 years. Mrs. Huff was a member of the National Association of University Women for many years. Mrs. Huff united with Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in 1949 under the pastorate of Rev. W.L. Brannon and has been a faithful member to this day under the pastorate of Rev. Oliver W. Billups, Jr. serving in various capacities at Mt. Olivet. Her parents, siblings, husband Moses, and granddaughter, Ayana McHenry, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her caring daughter, Amanda Huff McHenry, and her dear son-in-law, Frederick Charles McHenry; Monroe, LA; her loving granddaughter, Dr. Nikki McHenry, DC, Atlanta, GA; nieces, nephews, other special relatives, and a host of special friends. Viewing service for Mrs. Christena Johnson Huff, 92, of Monroe LA is 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM. Final Service begins at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Alice Mae Miller Chapel at Miller Funeral Home, 2932 Renwick St., Monroe, LA. Rev. Oliver W. Billups Jr., Pastor/Officiant. Please note: Because of Pandemic constraints, the service after the viewing will be for family members only.
