No Struggle, No Progress
On Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 5 p.m. at the Mt. at Zion Family Life Center, Rev. James and Virginia Howard celebrated 50 years of marital bliss. The ceremony performed by Rev. A. B. Davis-Johnson, was a renewing of the marriage vows which left the audience of nearly 200 friends and relatives spellbound. The couple danced to their favorite song, "God Blessed Our Love" by O.V. Wright, while the audience looked on. Their dance was followed by line dancing, dancing to the oldies, and several dances done by Dancing with the Stars T.V. show participant Dr. Dan Holt and his wife. The bride and groom met while they were students at Grambling State University, several months after Rev. Howard returned home from Viet Nam. They both were completing their last semester of school when they met sometime in late April or early May. They had a brief dating spree which lasted 6 and a half months, and on December 25, 1969, they were married at the Lake Zion Baptist Church in her hometown, Belcher, Louisiana. Since then they have built a home and a family based on love, trust, and God as their guiding light. The Howards would like to thank their children; Chanel, Monica, Tiana, and Dr. Enaka Yembe for making this event possible, Edward Williams Catering for the delicious food, The Butler Did It for the awesome decorations, D.J. Jovelle Williams for the beautiful "oldies but goodies" music, Samona Moore for the bride and groom cakes, Rev. Ike Byrd and the Mt. Zion staff, Mayor Jamie Mayo, Marshall Wince Highshaw, the Solomon Temple and Pilgrim B.C. families, friends and relatives, and those who traveled as far away as Dallas, Texas, Rockford, Illinois, and Compton, California to witness this 50 year Golden Anniversary and renewal of vows. We wish all of you a Happy New Year. To God Be the Glory for all He has done in our life these 50 years!
