No Struggle, No Progress
John Moorhead's Memorial Service
John Moorhead, 83, born in Montrose, Arkansas, raised in Monroe, Louisiana, and longtime resident of Yonkers, New York died on December 10, 2019. Services were held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Riverside Church in the City of New York, New York. John Moorhead was born to Grant and Emma Moorhead. He had six brothers (Lyndsay Moorhead and Julius Kenneth Moorhead of Monroe, LA) and three sisters (Corinthia Jackson of Houston, TX and Paulette Whatley of Saratoga Springs, NY.) His interests and travels took him to the state of New York, where he spent the bulk of his life. His primary occupation throughout his life was that of transportation. John found peace and joy first at Riverside Church in Monroe, LA, and then once again at Riverside Church in New York. In New York, he liked serving as a member and past president of the usher board. Although subsequently remarried, he always carried a soft spot for his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Jackson Moorhead Kennedy, the mother of his three children, Deborah (Thibodaux, LA), Yolanda (Alexandria, VA), and Reggie (Houston, TX). As his health began to fail, he was determined to live his life fully and only on his own terms. The family wishes to acknowledge the care given to John by the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, St. John's Riverside Hospital and St. John's Nursing Home, his primary doctor, Dr. Commentucci, and his good friends, Sarah, Monica, Vernon, Deborah, and Mace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Riverside Church Usher Board, 490 Riverside Drive, New York, New York 10027.
