No Struggle, No Progress

B.R.O.S (Beating and Redefining the Odds of Society)

Fed up with the youth in the community harming and killing each other, Brandon Wilhite got fed up with seeing the same old pattern of two families suffering when a situation occurs and two lives are ruined(or more), fed up with hearing the statistics thrown at the male youth that looked like me that says either you or your friend or your friend's friend is going to either go to jail or die early. Wilhite got fed up of being reactive by doing stuff after another tragedy had happened while wanting to be proactive and redirect behavior before male youth go down the wrong path. He got fed up of the male youth being misguided. He got fed up of the youth thinking what they have seen is the only way. Wilhite got fed up of the youth not knowing who they are and who they can become. Two years ago his nephew was mistakenly shot (the bullet wasn't for him) in the leg while playing basketball. Wilhite only brought that up, because his nephew forgave the guy who shot him while the male youth realized his mistake. B.R.O.S have a great relationship with him, and Wilhite is a mentor to him too, although he's older. Wilhite just wants to bring about change and bringing male youth together is a great way for bonds to become formed. That's why Wilhite created B.R.O.S Mentoring. His vision is to create a bond and brotherhood that will spread beyond one community. He envisions through the bonds created through various activities, the youth will care more for humanity and look at the next individual as a Brother. B.R.O.S stands for BEATING and REDEFINING the ODDS of SOCIETY. That's exactly what, B.R.O.S plans, one youth at a time. When you see us on pictures, as a part of B.R.O.S theme, you will see us linked/connected in some kind of way (arms around each other, handshakes, hugs, shoulder to shoulder, etc..) to represent togetherness, love, one love, our bond, and brotherhood.) Hopefully the bond extends beyond their childhood. Wilhite knows he will need tons of help because an old saying still stands "it takes a village to raise a child" hopefully, this starts something that goes way beyond my imagination. On Saturday November 9, B.R.O.S sponsored a basketball half court tournament and different basketball activities. City of Monroe Youth Coordinator assisted Wilhite in this initial bonding activity. B.R.O.S Music/Commentator was DJ Polo. Referees were Lee Warner and Norris Gray.
