Sources close to the Dispatch tell us that Zion Traveler Baptist Church Pastor Willie resigned after preaching his final sermon either this past or last Sunday. It was very unclear as to why Pastor Mabry resigned. Whenever the community was in turmoil, with shootings, community protests, marches etc., Pastor Mabry was always there, offering prayer or support many times representing clergy. The community remains in suspense as to what prompted his resignation? He will be misse...
Hurting the one you love seems impossible, yet in the heat of the moment something overwhelms the mind, instead of calmer heads. Once the devil is involved, love has not a chance until later after each party chills, which most times is too late. According to police reports on Tuesday, October 10, police were summoned to a domestic disturbance where a live-in girlfriend was slapped numerous times in the face by suspect Jalisha Modicue. The victim and suspect continued to fight for or over the...

Another successful week is in the books as I went an impressive 11-4 overall and 3-0 in featured games, but with district rivalries, long-distance road trips and daunting road games I wouldn't expect things to go this week as well. Richwood battles cross-town rival, Carroll at the Dog Pound, while Neville hits the road to south Louisiana to take on Franklinton and #2 Sterlington will have its hands full again as they visit Wossman and their intense homecoming crowd. Don't be afraid to go with a...
The Monroe Man March will not be an actual “march”. We will not be literally marching from one place to another as it was typically done in the 1960’s. This is not a protest or a demonstration. We are not angry or demanding anything from anyone other than ourselves. We will simply gather at Charles Johnson Park located at 3313 Bernstein Park Drive in Monroe this Saturday, October 14th, to make a statement that we are taking responsibility for the safety of our community. All of us (The Churc...
God loves the truth and the light. The American National Anthem, flag and claims of freedom and justice do not have the same symbolism for all Americans. Certainly not for black Americans and other minorities, the poor and downtrodden. White Americans appear to be America’s preference for privilege. Other Americans are, by virtue, considered to be second class citizens. Therefore, the emphasis, loyalty, devotion, worship and praise directed toward the Anthem and flag take on quite a different perspective according to what category one falls in...
