  • "ON THE WINGS OF HIS WORD" (Matthew 6:26)

    Marion Obafemi|Dec 17, 2020

Copyright 2012 By: Marion Obafemi, "THE PO' FOLK'S POET" It was 5:45, when I opened my eyes, and the first thing that I hear Was the melodic songs, of birds sounding the alarm, proclaiming that dawn was near. Their song was so clear, that it tickled my ear, and caused my heart to smile They said open your mind and surely you will find, strength to go the next mile. One bird said, "Each day I am fed, and I store no food in a barn I don't plant no crops, ain't punching no clock, but I have...

  • "BREAK THE MOLD"

    Marion Obafemi|Nov 26, 2020

Like many of you, when I am in trouble, I call upon the Lord. And, it was during a time of crisis in my life that He inspired me with this "joint" that I wanted to "pass" on to y'all. It is my prayer that we are reminded that God should not be used as an ATM machine that we run to ONLY when we are in a crisis or in need of a blessing. When we reflect upon what He has already done and continues to do in our lives, we will usually find the answers we are seeking to solve our present situation....

  • "THE PRAYERS OF THE UNBORN"

    Po Folks Poet Marion Obafemi|Nov 12, 2020

COPYRIGHT 2017 The sperm and the egg, came together to beg, God not to let their paths meet They didn't want the journey to begin, in this world filled with sin, and shaped in iniquity... Where up is down and down is up And, those who are full, never get enough.. Where right is wrong, and wrong is right Where those who are strong, misuse their might... Where women and men, are all messed up, and refuse to play their role Where they smile, and they grin, and get all dressed up, but are wearing each others clothes... Where your daughter or son,...

  • "SPEAKING FOR THE DEAD AGAIN"

    Marion Obafemi|Nov 5, 2020

Copyright 2001 Written By: Mr. Marion Obafemi and Inspired By God How can the the grave be a better place for me ? Just because I am resting, doesn't mean I'm in peace Although my body is dead, my soul feels grief I have feelings inside that need to be released And, through the writer of this poem, is how I chose to speak. How can you say that I am in a better place You are not the one that can state my case If where I am is so great, then why don't you take my place If not for a lifetime, then...

  • "MY RAINING EYES"

    Marion Obafemi, Inspired By God|Oct 29, 2020

Copyright 1995 Water falls from my eyes just like the rain No need to be ashamed, its how I show my pain Because politics is played like a dirty game I want to help is what they all claim But, until its time to vote, they don't even know your name But, the fact remains: What goes up is going to come down again Nothing stays the same Its time to make a change. A closer look in the mirror, now the picture's clearer There's no rain in my eyes, just so many tears That my eyes spilled, all thru the y...

I have followed the golden rule, did what you told me to, I've been quick to listen and slow to speak I don't treat nobody wrong, I help the weak since I'm strong, because as a man sow shall he reap. I know ain't nobody coming down, from the clouds, to do for me what I can do...

  • "OUR DIRTY LAUNDRY"

    Marion Obafemi|Oct 8, 2020

Job 38:22-23, II Chronicles 7:14 Copyright 2012 By: Mr. Marion Obafemi and inspired by God Since our tears have been revealed, as the water that is spilled, from raining and leaking eyes When our soul has been broken, and no words can be spoken, that will give peace to a soul that’s tired. I wonder how God would express, the pain that’s in His chest, when He looks down on this earth That He loved to the extent, that His only son was sent, to pay a price that no man is worth. Whenever the Lor...

  • "1 LOST FROM THE 100"

Mr. Marion Obafemi THE PO FOLKS POET|Oct 1, 2020

It is written that if you have 100 sheep and 1 of them go astray, you should leave the 99 that are still in the fold and seek to find the 1 that is lost. This is a fundamental teaching of Jesus that those who claim to follow Him seem to have forgotten. I was inspired to write this poem as a reminder to us of our duty to those who are lost. My prayer is that we would honestly examine our practices to see how they measure up with the teachings of Jesus and find the strength to make the adjustments that will bring us more in line with the message...

  • "I WOULDN'T STOP GETTING HIGH"

Mr. Marion Obafemi THE PO FOLKS POET|Sep 24, 2020

The "joint" (poem) you are about to "smoke" (read) should definitely be "passed" (shared) with someone you know that may be struggling with an addiction. The drug of choice may be crack, cocaine, lean, meth, weed, sex, power or any other temporary "fix" that the world offers us to cope with the challenges of life. I would like to recommend some "dope" that can get you so "high" that (unlike the drugs in the streets) when you "smoke" it, you will never come down. When this drug gets in your "system", you will be able to "rise" above your...

  • "WHAT YOU THINK"

    Po Folks Poet Marion Obafemi|Sep 17, 2020

Copyright 2002 What you think ? That when I was born My momma's womb wasn't torn When I passed thru like a strong wind in a storm. What you think ? That when the doctor slapped me on my a$$ I didn't cry like my first breath was my last Because I was so damn bad. What you think ? That I was able to run before I could walk Curse before I could talk Because I learned what the streets taught. What you think ? That I am less than a man Because I am locked inside this can And can't move around unless cuffs are on my hands. What you think ? That I am...

  • MAKE HIM YOUR CHOICE

    Po Folks Poet Marion Obafemi|Sep 10, 2020

I once rejected God in my life Said, "Jesus never died for me" Didn't believe in all His sacrifice That He hung, bled and died on a tree. But, when the winds of my life start blowing And, they knock me right on down to my knees When the tears from my eyes are flowing And, there was no one to comfort me.. • "THY WILL BE DONE"

    Marion Obafemi|Sep 3, 2020

Dear Heavenly Father, don't mean to bother, you but we need to talk Go wake up Jesus and Job, because I was told, they had a similar walk The Lord will understand me, because I've been nailed to a tree, blood dripping from my feet and hands Like Job was tried and tested, my development has been arrested, and much more I can not stand. Are the clouds so dark and deep, that your eyes are unable to see, that your child is on this cross? It's impossible to move my legs, going around in circles with...

    Po Folks Poet Marion Obafemi|Aug 27, 2020

  • "REDUCE THE RISK"

    Marion Obafemi|Aug 20, 2020

Copyright 2008 Written by: Mr. Marion Obafemi and inspired by God This journey we are on, may be narrow and long, but at the end of it is peace This path may get dark, and the road may seem hard, but there is a light to guide our feet... This trail may seem cold, as we carry this heavy load, but we’ll find comfort and ease I can declare these things, because my faith in the King, is rooted deeper than a tree There is no need for despair, your burdens I can share, because I’m holding on to Him...

  • "THE HOOK" Copyright 2004

The Po Folks Poet Mr. Marion Obafemi|Jul 9, 2020

When I was young and just a small fryer I searched through the dirty waters of my hood and used to admire The big fish with fancy rides, women on the side and teeth that shine like fire. They wore the latest styles with do rags and timbs They rolled in candy-painted whips with twenty-two inch rims And, I said to myself, “I want to be like them”. Popa was a rolling stone, he left us alone and he’s probably locked up state Moma is praying, that she can keep paying, maximum bills with only a minim...

Since day one, I can’t save one, all of them are getting killed. I can’t pay no bills, done double checked. I ain’t got no check, in my mailbox. The hands on the clock, says I’m out of time. If it falls to the ground, it will spread through this town, and wet a thousand tongues That will sing like birds, adding nouns and twisting verbs, building sentences when only a phrase was sung..... I would give you a sip, but I know it will drip, and turn a mole hill into a mountain This is a load that you ca...

Marion Obafemi, The Po Folks Poet|Nov 2, 2017

Copyright 1999 I have often wondered why the weeping willow cries Could it be for the same reason that tears fall from my eyes? Like the limbs of the willow, I was reaching for the sky Then came the axe called life to cut me down before I received my prize Cutting me at the core of the dreams that I had inside. But, I shall survive this axe and boldly declare that this is not my end Because I have other crosses to bear and so much life to lend I refuse to fall to the ground never to rise again O...

  • Marching Orders

Marion Obafemi, The Po Folks Poet|Oct 12, 2017

The Monroe Man March will not be an actual “march”. We will not be literally marching from one place to another as it was typically done in the 1960’s. This is not a protest or a demonstration. We are not angry or demanding anything from anyone other than ourselves. We will simply gather at Charles Johnson Park located at 3313 Bernstein Park Drive in Monroe this Saturday, October 14th, to make a statement that we are taking responsibility for the safety of our community. All of us (The Churc...
